Test this week: Urbanisation

Tuesday, Dec 18, period 2:

Information from: 
-class readings (What is urbanisation?, Five Largest slums in the World) and class work
-notes
-textbook, p. 98-101

Definitions:
-urbanisation
-urban
-mega-city

Long answer:
-reasons for urban growth (+ negative aspects of urbanisation, in general - not specific to cities in developing countries...);
-slums (lots to discuss!)
-prove that the world is more urban than it was 100 years ago (4 supporting facts)

Short answer questions (5), True and False (correct the false), and two cartoons to analyse:
-eg. problems of urban sprawl

Map:
-any 20 of the following huge cities: use the map we made on Friday!
-from west to east: LA, Chicago, NYC, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, London, Paris, Istanbul, Cairo, Lagos, Karachi, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Dhaka, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, Manila, Jakarta.

Some crazy info about China:
-slide-show of China's ten biggest cities from PBS (including Shenzhen, which was a fishing village 30 years ago... now with NINE MILLION inhabitants! What the what?)
-160 Chinese cities have more than 1 million people... staggering!
