Largest Urban Areas

Textbook, pp. 98-101

On the map of the world, you will locate the thirty largest urban areas and their respective countries. You will also label the thirty fastest growing urban areas (see below). We will use statistics for urban area; the definition of urban area, and thus the statistics, differ from "city proper," from "urban agglomerations" and from "metropolitan areas."

An urban area, as defined by Demographia, is a "continuously built up land mass of urban development that is within a labor market (i.e. metropolitan area or metropolitan region), without regard for administrative boundaries (i.e. municipality, city or commune)."

On your map choose two colours for the city dots (largest, fastest); label the countries with these cities. Then, associate each country with its development: developed, emerging (BRIC) and developing... (three separate colours).

Don't forget to add the major oceans...
