Project: Battle for the Arctic
Due March 30 (Green), March 31 (Orange)
=15-20% of term 3
-examining a current issue of tension and conflict which directly affects Canada
-watch documentary on post below
-remember that each member must research article about the topic and bring it to the next class; it must be included in the project, when you hand it in.
-topics that need to be discussed in the project:
-What is the issue? Why is there a "battle for the Arctic"
-What are the sources of tension?
-Who is involved?
-positions of Arctic bordering countries (Russia, America, Canada, Denmark, Norway)
-How are countries dealing with the issue? What actions are being taken?
-explain the "geography" of the issue (resources, geo-strategic significance of the Arctic, include a map)
-discuss pertinent international laws or agreements, U.N. conventions...
-what is your group's position? what solutions do you put forward?
