This weekend, citizens in about 1000 cities worldwide protested against "power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations." It is aimed at the world's wealthy 1% who write the rules of the global economy and impose their agenda on the rest of us - the 99% with no wealth and no power.

And will you please check out this fascinating Quebecois? His name is Jean Beliveau (not the former Habs captain) and over the course of 4407 days, he has walked around the world for peace. His inspiration was the United Nations manifesto in 2000. The UN proclaimed 2000-2010 the "international decade for a culture of peace and non-violence for the children of the world." This morning, he arrived home in Montreal, after eleven years. Here's another article.
I think the protesters in Canada should just pack up their tents and leave. They've already gotten the point out, so I don't see the need to use up public space for them to live on.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good cause and all, but they should try another way now (especially with the cold + snow).

Interesting thoughts. Have you seen them? I think it's a fascinating movement; I don't know if there message has been clear enough or sustained enough - but I certainly agree with it... And hey: if they're not worried about the snow & cold, then you shouldn't be!
ReplyDeleteI concur. However, I don't believe the way they are doing it will get the message out. It's tarnishing their reputation.
