We have reviewed the continents, the oceans and the hemispheres of the world; we have briefly examined the differences between a democracy and a dictatorship; between developed and developing countries; we have started to become familiar with the "left" and "right" of the political spectrum, and the impact this has on government economic and social policy. Next class we will start to look at the "pros" and "cons" of globalisation.
This brief CW introduction will be evaluated on Thursday, September 27. You should read over your notes, your handouts (including the map), and the textbook, pp. 6-13.
For homework, I'd like you to choose twenty items at home in the following four categories: home appliances; entertainment & sports; food; and clothing. Write down the item and indicate where it was made - this might give you a glimpse into "globalisation"...
The red countries are considered "authoritarian" - most often, these are dictatorships. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Democracy_Index_2011_red_and_green.png |
Having completed the "where are you on the spectrum," you should recognise this... How are these connected to globalisation? |
